Publication Ethics

DAAR EL-TAMKIN: Journal of Community Empowerment is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and preventing publication malpractice. This journal adopts the principles and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and adheres to the principles of honesty, transparency, fairness, accountability, and academic integrity in scholarly publishing.

All parties involved in the publication process—including publishers, editors, reviewers, and authors—must agree to and comply with the ethical standards outlined below.


Ethical Principles

The publication ethics of DAAR EL-TAMKIN: Journal of Community Empowerment are based on the following principles:

  1. Integrity – maintaining honesty and scientific rigor in all stages of publication.
  2. Transparency – ensuring openness in editorial decisions and publication processes.
  3. Fairness – evaluating manuscripts solely on their academic merit without discrimination.
  4. Confidentiality – protecting the confidentiality of manuscripts and the identities of reviewers.
  5. Accountability – taking responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.
  6. Independence – ensuring editorial decisions are free from external influence or conflicts of interest.

Duties of Publisher

The publisher is responsible for:

  • Supporting editorial independence.
  • Ensuring the sustainability and quality of journal publication.
  • Protecting intellectual property rights and copyrights.
  • Maintaining ethical oversight of the publication process.
  • Facilitating corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary.
  • Preventing any commercial interests from influencing editorial decisions.

Duties of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

Publication Decisions

Editors determine which manuscripts submitted to the journal should be published based on academic merit, originality, significance, and relevance to the journal's scope.

Fair Play

Manuscripts are evaluated without regard to race, gender, religious belief, ethnicity, citizenship, institutional affiliation, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and publisher.

Conflict of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research and should avoid handling manuscripts in which conflicts of interest exist.

Handling Misconduct

Editors shall take reasonable responsive measures when ethical complaints are presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published article.


Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and help authors improve the quality of manuscripts.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.

Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively, and personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.

Conflict of Interest

Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions involved.


Duties of Authors

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works. All forms of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, are unacceptable.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be required to provide raw data related to the manuscript for editorial review.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, implementation, or interpretation of the study.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors should disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.

Fundamental Errors

When authors discover significant errors in their published work, they are obliged to promptly notify the editor and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.


Research Ethics and Community Service Ethics

For manuscripts reporting community service and community empowerment activities, authors must ensure that:

  1. Activities respect human dignity, local culture, and community values.
  2. Community participation is voluntary and informed.
  3. Confidential information and personal data of participants are protected.
  4. Necessary permissions and approvals from relevant institutions or communities have been obtained.
  5. The implementation of community service activities does not harm participants or communities involved.
